eVader

eVader accurately monitors the whole water network and reports events as they occur

What is it?

eVader is a network event detection system developed from a deep understanding of water flows in networks and the application of robust statistical processes. It has been designed to monitor 1000’s of points simultaneously, and learn what is normal for the network. Crucially, eVader produces an alarm in real time when an abnormal event occurs, before customers become aware of a problem.

eVader has been developed to meet the needs of network operators, providing real-time updates with robust and accurate alarms that the operator can act upon. Thus, improving efficiency, reducing the time customers might be without water, improving resilience and reducing water lost from the network. eVader also provides confirmation that the network has returned to normal conditions after the event has passed.

Real Time Burst Detection

Real Time Burst Detection

Through its self-learning algorithms, eVader provides real time alarms in the event of bursts occurring in the water network.

Automatic Leak Detection

Automatic Leak Detection

As well as detecting bursts, eVader can detect smaller leaks in the network using minimum night flows to provide alarms.

Self Learning

Self Learning

eVader self learns to quantify the normal flow for every monitoring point, and continually updates this over time. There is no requirement for manual input of data in the learning process.

Proven Results

Proven Results

Tested and validated on over 4,000 sites including district meters, trunk mains and pressure sites on over 4 years of data.

Asset Intelligence

Asset Intelligence

eVader automatically builds a database of all the events it detects which can be analysed to draw insights on how the network assets are performing.

Integrated Alerts

Integrated Alerts

eVader provides two levels of alerts: a warning and an alarm. Key metrics are provided with both alerts enabling users to assess the scale of the event. Alerts can be sent via API, SMS, e-mail or dashboard.

Uses Existing Data

Uses Existing Data

eVader makes use of data from existing meters on the network, thus eliminating the need for new assets, and allowing historical data from monitoring points to be utilised.

Simple Integration

eVader is provided as a cloud based software as a service (SaaS). Fully integrating with your current data collection and situational awareness systems, providing seamless insights into any time series data.

Cost Effective & Scalable

Cost Effective & Scalable

eVader produces reliable and accurate event alarms on any sized network, allowing operators to: minimise the time customers might otherwise go without water, reduce the volume of water lost, operate the network more efficiently, and improve resilience

How does it work?

eVader works by monitoring time series data from any meter in any network. This data typically has a high level of seasonality since consumption changes through the year, which is one of the reasons why fixed upper and lower control limits are unsuitable alarm methods. It is also the case that flow data is not normally distributed, and neighbouring data points have dependencies with one another, hence flow patterns from one day to the next, or one weekend to the next tend to look similar. This presents particular challenges in applying conventional statistical alarm algorithms.

To overcome this, eVader checks the quality of incoming data, uses algorithms to infill any missing data, and removes seasonality and data dependencies from the original flow trace. The remaining time series data can then be used with standard statistical process control methods. The algorithms use a moving training window to adapt and automatically respond to changing conditions at each site, providing statistical confidence and reliable alarms.

Benefits

eVader is simple to use, requiring no manual inputs to train the system, and can process 1000’s of monitoring points simultaneously.

eVader produces reliable and accurate event alarms, which allows operators to:

  • minimise the time customers might otherwise go without water,
  • operate the network more efficiently,
  • reduce the volume of water lost,
  • improve resilience.

eVader automatically builds a database of detected events and alarms from the existing measurement points, providing a rich data source that informs asset performance and health.

Although originally developed for flow in water networks, eVader has been tested on pressure data, and can be used on any time series data that has seasonal patterns. This should make the system suitable for alternative uses in water networks and applications in wastewater networks.
